The Grand Rapids Police Department has announced its new Live Traffic Accident Report website, which will provide up-to-the-minute crash information. The website went live on Wednesday, and lists all traffic crashes from the time the crash is reported until the moment the accident scene is cleared.

Here's how it works: one the dispatch call taker inputs the crash information into the system, that information will be relayed to thee Traffic Accident Report website, within seconds, and will remain on the website until the scene has been clared. The site includes the accident location, and type of crash. However, the information on the website will not indicate road closures.

The system will only report GRPD working accidents, and will not show accidents that other agencies are working on. For example, if the Michigan State Police is working an accident on a highway in Grand Rapids, it will not be listed.

You can access the information on the Grand Rapids Police Department's website.

Sgt. Terry Dixon, Public Information Officer said of the new site, "This is a basic tool that will help people avoid areas where there is a reported crash and potentially avoid traffic back up situations."
