The Grand Rapids Police Department is warning residents about cutting through businesses' parking lots to avoid construction.

In a Facebook post Tuesday, the GRPD warned residents of the fines and points attached to being ticketed for the offense.

The offense, which is technically referred to as using "private/public property to avoid the device" is punishable by a $170 fine (because it's in a construction zone) and two points on your driver's license.

Lots of violators still passing through the business lots to avoid the construction detour at Michigan St NE/Fuller Ave NE. It will cost you $170 and two points.

Officials have mainly been seeing this happen at the intersection of Michigan St. and Fuller Ave., which shut down completely on Saturday for resurfacing and will likely remain closed for two weeks.
