The Grand Rapids Public Schools district is looking to trim the budget down, and with that comes layoffs.

WZZM-13 reports that the district sent layoff notices to 90 staff members this week.

A GRPS spokespersonexplains that the administration is confident that many of the positions will eventually be called back.

The layoffs come after further declining enrollment in GRPS. The district predicts 400 fewer students will return in the fall.

The layoff will include 40 teachers and other staffers.
