If you're a football fan, you're familiar with cheap shots. A shot taken on a defenseless player by an opponent. But you've never seen players take a cheap hot at a defenseless referee. Yup. A REFEREE!

In Texas, two high school football players are looking at possible criminal charges for hitting a referee on the field from behind.

The two defensive backs from John Jay High School in San Antonio hit the back judge in the final moments of a 15-9 loss at Marble Falls – which is located about 90 miles north of San Antonio.

Video – which, of course, has gone viral – shows one cheap shot artist hitting the ref from behind and then jumping in and spearing him with his helmet during a game Friday night. They were upset because of a bad call that went against their team earlier in the game.

High school football in Texas needs to calm down.

Check out the cheap shots.

Both players were ejected from the game and later suspended indefinitely from the team and from school, pending an investigation by the school district.
