Holland Mayor Kurt Dykstra has announced that he will not seek re-election to a fourth term as mayor of the Tulip City.

Mayor Dykstra posted an open letter to the people of Holland on Tuesday, stating that over the past few days, "positive events have occurred in my family and professional life; these events, however, mean that I will not seek re-election."

Mayor Dykstra stated that he isn't at liberty to discuss those changes at this time, but that they will be announced in a few weeks.

Dykstra stated that he was announcing this now to be fair to the residents of Holland since nominating petitions for the position must be submitted by April 21.

He is currently the Senior Vice President and Holland Community President of Mercantile Bank.

He referred to serving the community of Holland as "a privilege" and said the city is a "wonderful and unique place".
