After a slow start, we've had plenty of snow this winter. Exactly how much snow? It's easy to find out when you know how to measure snowfall totals like a pro.

This week has taught us that not all snow is created equally. 4 inches of fine, heavy, sleety, icy snow that acts like sand when you try to drive or walk through it is nothing like 4 inches of fluffy, white snow, but we have to start somewhere.

Measuring snow depth is pretty simple. It just takes a little set up, a good location, then check it on a timely basis.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration shares how to best measure snowfall totals.
