The beginning of the Indy 500 is always exciting: "Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines!"

I'm not a huge race fan, but I love the history of sport. And this is ABC's 50th year of covering the 500.

So, the production department at ABC/ESPN made a cool opening to the race.

They mixed old interviewers (Jim McKay) with current racing stars (Helio Castroneves), and it was pretty awesome. Also the piece was narrated by Rockford's Kevin Yon.

So, even though the race was six hours away in Indianapolis, there was a West Michigan feel to the opening.
