If you grew up in an autoworker house like I did, something are just known. Like every year we would go to downtown Kalamazoo to the State Theatre and experience the annual UAW Christmas movie/party. The union would have Christmas cartoon movies and give out crappy kids toys. But it was tradition.

In the Detroit area, the tradition is Jobbie Nooner. According to Wikipedia, Jobbie Nooner is "an event that began in the 1980s. Auto workers who called themselves “jobbies”, would pick a Friday and take off work at noon to party at Gull Island (Lake St. Clair, Michigan) for the day. The event was originally time to coincide with the late Lee Wagner's birthday, but eventually grew to become a bigger celebration. The party now occurs twice a year."

Well TODAY is the first Jobbie Nooner! Here's a great Pure Michigan spoof of Jobbie Nooner...Id make sure the boss isn't right over your shoulder when you watch this. Really funny!
