For years, I have ranted that changing the clocks twice a year does more harm than good.

Statistics have proven me right. Immediately following a time change, productivity goes down, accidents go up, and people have more heart attacks, The New York Times reported.

So why haven't we all wised up like Arizona and quit this bad habit? Good question. Or, as John Oliver asks: "Why is this still a thing?"

Oliver took the U.S. to task Sunday night for hanging on to an outmoded relic of an idea: Daylight Saving Time.

In the video, Oliver proved that everything we know about the time change is wrong.

So, why are we still doing it again? Oh, because it's always been this way.

If Oliver's sense of humor doesn't convince you, here's a more straight forward take down of Daylight Saving Time from Gizmodo.

If you don't want to link over there, here's its synopsis:

So, none of the arguments for maintaining DST weigh up. I have one, very large, argument to support scrapping it, though: it loses the U.S. billions of dollars every year. It damages retail, affects the stock market in a negative way, and even disrupts agriculture.

A century ago, we didn't have data to tell us whether DST made a real measurable impact; it was acceptable to run with it because, for all we knew, it was useful. Now, we know better. Day light savings sucks—and we need to get rid of it.
