Jimi Hendrix’s Estate Looks to Make Biopic
Snapping at the heels of the forthcoming Jimi Hendrix biopic, 'Jimi: All Is By My Side,' the estate of Hendrix has signed a deal with the ICM Partners agency with the intention of creating a fully authorized film based on his life.
“We’re delighted to be associated with ICM Partners on this project that’s been a long time coming,” Janie Hendrix, president and CEO of Experience Hendrix, LLC said on their website. “Our concern has always been that any biography of Jimi that employs his music be held to the very highest standard of cinematic excellence. His musical legacy deserves no less. Our partners at ICM are ideal insofar as they completely understand that the use of his music in such a film is a monumental responsibility that will resonate through generations to come as Jimi’s artistry has since the 1960s.”
The family-run company controls the rights to all the music made by the late guitar legend. While 'JImi: All Is By My Side,' directed by Oscar winner John Ridley, features no actual Hendrix music in the film, this proposed new project with ICM Partners will have access to the Hendrix catalog.
Plans for a Hendrix biopic have been making the rounds for years with everyone from Lenny Kravitz to Will Smith and Anthony Mackie tagged to play Hendrix. Andre 3000, of course, stars in 'Jimi: All Is By My Side,' which is currently making the rounds at SXSW.
