Sometimes genius goes unrecognized, and that certainly is the case with my state college football predictions. Last week, I pushed my season mark to 18-4, going 4-1, missing only Michigan's rout of previously overrated BYU.

Lesson learned: never underestimate the power of Jim Harbaugh. Let's see what's on tap this weekend.

Purdue at #2 Michigan State -- noon Saturday

Purdue (1-3) used to be known as the 'Spoilermakers' for their deft ability to come up with the timely upset. That's not going to happen this week. MSU 50, Purdue 17

#22 Michigan at Maryland -- 8pm Saturday

The Wolverines (3-1) are slowly becoming more and more like their puppet master Harbaugh, a team that plays hard nosed defense and runs the football well. Harbaugh picks up his first road win, but it's closer than expected over the Terrapins (2-2). Meeeeeshigan 22, Maryland 17

Northern Illinois at Central Michigan, 3pm Saturday

The MAC West is loaded with talented football teams, and these are two of the better ones. Central (1-3) has played three ranked teams close, while NIU (2-2) scared the hell out of Ohio State two weeks ago. This will be a close, hard hitting game, and the home field advantage is the difference for the Chippewas, who get a big win. CMU 21, NIU 17

Ferris State at Findlay (Ohio) -- noon, Saturday

Findlay (3-1) likes to put up a lot of points, just like Ferris (3-0). Unfortunately, their defense sucks. The scoreboard gets a good workout, but the VanderLaan Express rolls onward. Ferris 55, Findlay 35

Hillsdale at Grand Valley State -- 7pm Saturday

HIllsdale is probably not as bad as their record (1-3), but Grand Valley is exactly as good as their record (3-1). The Chargers go home unhappy on Family Night at Lubbers Stadium. Grand Valley 40, Hillsdale 21

Albion at Hope — 5:00pm Saturday

(I called this game last week, even though it's not played until this week, does that make sense? Nope. So let's just rewind the prediction)

The Dutchmen open up their league schedule against a Briton team that was picked to win the title. I have no doubt Hope will be a good team by the end of the year, they’re just not ready for the Britons' jelly just yet. Albion 30, Hope 14
