Joni Mitchell was rushed to the hospital yesterday in Los Angeles. No word yet as to what caused her to become unconscious, but she's said to be "in good spirits".

According to TMZ a 911 call came in from the singer's home with reports of an unconscious female, although the 71-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer was said to be alert while being transported to the hospital.

She was said to be in intensive care as of this morning.

The Canadian-born Mitchell became a folk music icon of the late 1960s and early 1970s with songs like "Big Yellow Taxi", "Both Sides, Now", and "Woodstock".

Variety reported that Mitchell is a lifelong smoker who was once quoted as saying that "six decades of smoking have robbed me of my voice."
