In a strange turn of events, right before one of the hottest days of the year Grand Rapids has decided to reduce the admission price at city pools by half after dismal attendance last year. The pools, which open July 2, will be one dollar for kids under 17, down from two dollars last year, and 2 dollars for adults. Yay!

Non city residents will pay 4 dollars. According to the Press story Grand Rapids pools adjust admission fee after big drop off in attendance in 2011 "Pool attendance last year fell 49 percent from 2010, when admission was free for children. The decline was driven by a 57 percent plunge in youth attendance. Adult attendance dipped 19 percent last year, according to city data."

See...we CAN have a direct effect on things like this with our pocketbook. Way to listen to us, Grand Rapids!
