Muscular Dystrophy Association’s “Fill the Boot” campaign is underway and firefighters have been out collecting money in intersections across Michigan.

At around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the intersection of Jolly and Cedar in Lansing, a driver struck a firefighter after an altercation and then left the scene. The firefighter, 35-year-old Dennis Rodeman passed away due to his injuries.

When authorities caught up to the 22-year-old suspect, he attempted to flee, according to WLNS-TV. He was finally apprehended around 4 p.m. Wednesday.

An official GoFundMe page has been set up for Rodeman's family, which consists of his wife and unborn child.
