Police say that a man found dead in a coffee house in Grand Rapids' Eastown neighborhood Wednesday morning died of a heroin overdose.

The unnamed 35-year-old was discovered in the bathroom of Kava House, 1445 Lake Drive SE.

The shop closed for the day following the incident.

The number of fatal heroin overdoses in Kent County have been on the rise, authorities told WOOD-TV8.

Grand Rapids police say that fentanyl, an opiate, is being cut with heroin. Often, the users are unaware, and that has lead to more deaths. Fentanyl is legal with a prescription.

It’s unclear if fentanyl was involved in the overdose at Kava House.
