A guy who was sick of getting calls from telemarketers invented a phone robot that he programmed to waste as much of their time as possible. It's entertaining to hear them try and communicate with a non-sentient voice.

Roger Anderson has a library of voice clips that can keep a marketer talking for minutes on end. His machine detects breaks in the conversation and changes the subject, telling the caller they sound like a friend from high school or freaking out that a bee is nearby – among many others.

In each case, the robot then asks the caller to begin again from the start, keeping them on the line – and hitting the companies where it hurts by jacking up their cost of labor.

And then, to add insult to injury, he’s been posting the calls from telemarketers on his blog and Facebook page, to make fun of the clueless callers.

I know what many of you are thinking: wasn’t the no-call list supposed to put an end to telemarketers? Well, they've started hitting mobile phones hard recently. I know I've been getting a lot more calls on my cell from unsolicited numbers.

This is one of those examples of the little guy solving a problem that the government hasn’t been able to take care of.

Do you have any sympathy at all for telemarketers? They are just doing their jobs. They are just trying to earn a buck. Does that count for something? Or… Should these rat finks quit now and find another job?

Here's a couple of examples of how he distracts callers using a robot, first up a call from a foreign telemarketer who gets amd and swears at him.

And this poor old man is trying to do a survey and hangs on for a long time before giving up on the robot.
