Tomorrow is the start of December, but someone has already claimed the Guinness record for the world’s largest display of Christmas lights.

The famous record keepers recognized David Richard from Canberra, Australia with a spot in the record books for creating a display on an artificial tree with more than 500-thousand individual lights.  The massive tree was lit up Friday, and is topped with an almost four-feet tell star containing 12-thousand bulbs.  Richards is aptly known locally, and now worldwide, as "Christmas Lights Man."

The light guru started the Christmas tradition after he and his wife lost a child to SIDS. The display generates funds for the charity SIDS and Kids ACT.

If you are still thinking of besting Richard after learning his motivation, good luck with that; this is his third consecutive year of winning the record.
