We are just a few weeks away from the beginning of Marvel’s Phase 3, which kicks off with Captain America: Civil War and runs through 2019 with Avengers: Infinity War Part II (and possibly Inhumans). Although we are still a few years out from Phase 4, studio head Kevin Feige recently revealed at least one title we can expect in the next chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which — as he explains in a new interview — will be “distinctively different.”

Just how different remains to be seen as, for the most part, Marvel’s films have followed a general formula that’s proven immensely successful. It was only with the major success of Guardians of the Galaxy that the studio saw the benefits of coloring outside the lines, and as of now, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is the only film Feige has confirmed for Phase 4. But what else might we expect after Phase 3’s epic two-part Infinity War?

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Feige avoids specifics while hinting at what we can expect from the next phase of Marvel films:

I think there will be a finality to moments of Phase Three, as well as new beginnings, that will mark a different, a very different, a distinctively different, chapter in what will someday be a complete first saga made up of three phases.

Marvel recently removed Inhumans from their schedule to avoid conflict with Disney’s Indiana Jones 5, and as they’ve yet to give it a new release date, it’s not clear if Inhumans will still be the final film of Phase 3. That “first saga” Feige mentions would be comprised of 23 films, even if Inhumans is replaced with another title. If, for some reason, Marvel decides to end Phase 3 with Infinity War, that would knock the number down to 22.

Still, can you imagine the size of THAT box set? (And the price?!)

We still have until at least sometime next year before Marvel begins announcing their Phase 4 plans, but with new heroes like Black Panther and Captain Marvel joining the ranks, we’re certainly going to see the MCU expand in new and interesting ways.
