Another President's Day has come and gone, but you may have missed this list: the U.S. Presidents who partied hard.

Kennedy is a given, but Nixon is a surprise on this list from a Presidential historian.

Sure, being the Leader of the Free World is a lot of work, but you know what they say- you've gotta work hard to play hard. Out of 44 presidents, they each probably had their own way of kicking back and the New York Post took six anecdotes from Brian Abrams' book "Party Like a President" that prove our leaders who really knew how to let their hair down:

Thomas Jefferson: The most family friendly of the bunch of the stories, Jefferson's indulgence was in the kitchen. Our third president spent what would now be about $1,000 a day on food. Over his two terms, he reportedly dropped $300,000 on his wine collection.

Richard Nixon: Oh, Nixon. Not only was he a fan of scandal, but he also reportedly liked to mix booze and pills. A Secret Service agent reported once overhearing the president drunkenly yelling “Bomb the s - - t out of them!” Well, that sure explains a lot.

James Buchanan: Prez number 15 kept it simple, preferring his booze and a lot of it. Despite buying  a 10-gallon cask of whiskey every week, Buchanan could hold his alcohol. A journalist reportedly said the president showed “no headache, no faltering steps.” Impressive.

John F. Kennedy: A lot can, and has, been said about JFK's life behind closed doors and apparently it's as weird as you've heard. He seems to be our only president to use “poppers,” inhaled amyl nitrate that causes a head rush and increases good vibes in between the sheets.

Andrew Johnson: Johnson got his drinking started while he was still vice president. He reportedly demanded whiskey from former VP Hannibal Hamlin. Johnson took three shots, grabbed the Bible from the chief justice, and kissed it. Oh, and he forgot the name of his cabinet members. Classy.

Warren Harding: Harding's penchant for hookers won't come to anyone who remembers his love letter that were released last year. He was a horn dog who even had a name for Warren Jr.
