Jacob didn't win the event, but he won over America's hearts when he told everyone "he's got this", when in fact, he didn't.

We've all been there, haven't we?  We think we know something, or we think we can handle something, and then, when push comes to shove, we don't.

So here's Jacob, on national television, sure of his answer, confident in his knowledge, until the bell rings and stuns him with defeat.

Hats off to you, Jacob, you were the shining star of Spelling Bee 2014!

 

Oh, in case you didn't know --

13-year old Ansun Sujoe of Texas correctly spelled “feuilleton” to be crowned co-champion with 14-year-old Sriram Hathwar of New York.

This was the third time in the history of the Scripps Spelling Bee that there has been a tie. The last time was in 1962.
