Changes to Michigan's "Move Over" Law go into effect Wednesday, February 13.

According to Click on Detroit, drivers are now required to:

Slow to 10 mph below the posted speed limit, as well as to yield their lane, when passing police or emergency vehicles on the side of the road."

Aside from police cars, ambulances, and firetrucks, Synder also expanded the law to include garbage trucks, tow trucks, utility vehicles, and road maintenance vehicles that are stopped on the side of the road with their lights flashing.

WILX 10 reports that just this week two Michigan state troopers were injured after their patrol vehicles were hit by other cars while they were parked on the side of the road. Fortunately, the troopers were not seriously hurt.

Drivers who fail to follow the law could be subject to a $400 fine.
