There were a lot of whispers about what to expect of the Michael Jackson world premiere performance expected at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards. The carefully-kept secret was revealed this evening (May 18) during the King of Pop’s performance of ‘Slave to the Rhythm.’

The anticipation was thick when back-up dancers in high-tech security gear began their choreography across a dark curtain as the opening notes of the song began. When the curtain finally parted, it was to reveal the man himself — Michael Jackson, in hologram form.

Performing a song from his recently released posthumous album, ‘Xscape,’ the late holographic singer danced across a set reminiscent of his 1991 album, ‘Dangerous.’ Dressed in a gold jacket and red pants, Michael’s hologram broke out some of his signature dance moves, including the famed moonwalk. His back-up dancers gave the show a tangible aspect, moving through the crowd with their choreography.

Even as a hologram, MJ can put on a show like no other. The performance captured his energy, his voice and his moves, and rocked it to the fullest.
