On Dec. 19, a recall of West Michigan-produced apples was announced by Jack Brown Produce of Sparta, Mich. and the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. The recall has now been expanded to include packaged apple slices.

The apples are potentially contaminated with listeria.

To date, there have been no known illnesses reported in connection with the recalls.

Meijer has recalled some Meijer brand packaged products contain apple slices that were supplied by Detroit-based Fresh-Pak, Inc. The recalled products are:

  • Meijer Michigan Harvest Salad – 10 oz., UPC: 708820684003
  • Meijer Sharable Waldorf Salad – 16 oz., UPC: 713733538640
  • Meijer Fresh Cranberry Apple Stuffing Starter – 18.9 oz., UPC: 719283379771

Fresh Pak Inc. of Detroit has also announced a voluntary recall of red/green apple slices. Jack Brown Produce of Sparta, Mich. supplied the apples and requested Fresh Pak Inc. to perform the recall. The products come in 2.2, 2.5, 9, and 7 ounce bags and/or plastic packages as well as 3 lb. bags. They are marked as follows:
