It's a pretty bad flu season around the country, but the influenza activity level in Michigan has dropped these past few weeks.  At the end of 2017, Michigan was experiencing high amounts of people infected by influenza, but as of January 13th, our activity level has been reduced to low by the Center for Disease Control (CDC).

This doesn't mean you should let your guard down, though.  These next few weeks are the peak of the flu season.  The flu shot also has had a lower success rate then in recent years, with only a 32% rate of effectiveness.  Normally the flu shot is between 40-60% effective.

Since Oct. 1, there have been a total of 376 (25 pediatric, 351 adult) influenza-related hospitalizations reported in the catchment area for the 2017-2018.

Every week the CDC issues a Influenza Surveillance Report.  In the report, the CDC has announced that the United States has had 30 influenza-associated pediatric deaths, so far this season.

If you are experiencing flu like symptoms, you should visit your doctor as soon as possible.
