The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has announced that the annual Summer Free Fishing Weekend is scheduled for Saturday, June 11, and Sunday, June 12.

Residents and nonresidents of all ages can fish without a license that weekend. All other fishing regulations still apply.

This year marks the 30th year Michigan has celebrated the Summer Free Fishing Weekend.

"Every year, since 1986, we’ve offered these free fishing weekends as a fun, affordable way for people to learn about one of our state’s best outdoor traditions," said DNR Director Bill Moritz.

Organized activities are being scheduled in communities across the state. These activities are coordinated by individuals, organizations, schools, local and state parks, businesses and others.

The events scheduled include kids-only competitions, all-ages events, some with prizes including $50 gift cards, free events, events which require an entry fee and more.

There are a large number of events in northern Michigan, but West Michigan will also host Free Fishing Weekend activities.
