Michigan's gas prices are among the highest in the nation peaking at $4.70 in Clinton Township.  Michigan currently has the 3rd highest average gas price in the United States; only Hawaii and Illinois have higher averages.  In general, the Midwest has above average fuel prices with Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana being hit the hardest.

Midwest refineries are currently experiencing a 22-year low in supply.  The low supply is a major factor in the inflated prices in the Midwest.  Five Midwest refineries that supply Michigan and other Midwest states with fuel are currently closed or have closed recently for maintenance.

According to GasBuddy.com, Grand Rapids has the 3rd highest average metropolitan gas prices in the country.  The only two cities who have a higher average are Honolulu, HI and Chicago, IL.
