It sure looks like self-driving cars are the next big thing. Maybe they’ll help us lower the rates of accidents on the road. Maybe they’ll help ease traffic jams.

Well, one thing’s for sure. They’re definitely going to cause some major motion sickness -- at least according to a study from the University of Michigan.

Researchers found that for adults, motion sickness will be more of an issue in self-driving vehicles than in normal vehicles, with many people expected to experience motion sickness often, while others actually feeling sick every single time they’re on the road.

Lovely.

And, it all boils down to biology. Because people in these cars aren’t controlling their motion, they’re not able to anticipate where the car is going, which messes up our systems, causing illness.

The small windows won’t help either.

Arriving to work after a long commute and having to run to the bathroom to puke is kind of a dealbreaker.

Strange thing is, many of us are driving less than ever. Instead of shopping, things are delivered to our doors. Instead of going to work, we’re telecommuting. Getting in the car and going for a spin is actually a refreshing change of pace sometimes.
