Singing a song that paid a brief tribute to his home state, Traverse City's Joshua Davis advanced to the Top Ten on NBC's 'The Voice', thanks to your votes and support.

Now if we could only get show mentor Blake Shelton to listen to some old school Simon and Garfunkel.

Joshua Davis fired off an emotional take on the Simon and Garfunkel classic 'America' on Monday night's episode, only to have Blake Shelton admit he's NEVER heard the song before.

What? It's only the best produced pop song in the history of recording equipment.

Blake said it was "because I'm a hillbilly", as if he grew up in Loretta Lynn's 1940s Appalachia with no access to pop music or suitable clothing. Wake up, Blake, you're from 1990s Oklahoma, where you had Oldies radio and parents who would have been aware of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel.

Joshua's understated voice was in prime emotional range on the song, which mentions hitchhiking from Saginaw (my hometown) and the entire panel (even if Blake had never heard of a classic American song) gushed over his performance, propelling the viewing audience to give him enough votes to move on.

Votes are combined with the amount of iTunes purchases of the song, and clearly that latter methodology helped Joshua, as 'America' got as high as 26th on the iTunes chart by late Monday.

The show resumes Monday night at 8pm on WOOD-TV 8. The Wealthy Theater will once again hold a free viewing party for Joshua Davis supporters. You can get more information at grcmc.org/theatre.
