Earlier this year, I wrote a piece about this being the 40th anniversary of the summer that Mark 'The Bird' Fidrych enthralled Tiger fans with his stunning season of superb pitching.

Now, the Major League Baseball Network has put together a four minute feature on the Summer of The Bird that hit the web this week, and it's very well done.

This teaser clip from the documentary features interviews with former players, broadcasters and writers who covered The Bird's antics that summer of 1976.

Bob Uecker, former Tiger John Smoltz and Rolling Stone's Dave Marsh talk about the uniqueness of the eccentric rookie who did things like groom the mound with his hand and talk to the baseball.

The full show aired last Sunday on MLB Network. As of today, no further airings are scheduled, but you can watch it on demand if your cable providers allows.
