Both directions of I-94 are closed between Kalamazoo and Battle Creek because of a multi-vehicle crash involving semi-trucks.

The interstate is closed between Galesburg and Climax, WZZM-13, Michigan State Police and the Michigan Department of Transportation report.

WZZM-13 reports that one of the semi-trucks involved was carrying fireworks in the pile-up involving more than 150 vehicles.

At least one person has been killed in the 9:33 a.m. EST collision.

Update (12:45 p.m.)

Authorities are seeking to immediately evacuate everyone within a three-mile radius of I-94 mile marker 90 near the Kalamazoo-Calhoun county line.

Eastbound traffic on I-94 is being rerouted at Exit 88 (Michigan Avenue). The detour is rerouted onto Sprinkle Road to Exit 80, according to MDOT. Westboard traffic on I-94 is being rerouted at Exit 92 (M-37/Columbia Avenue).

Update (1:55 p.m.)

Evacuation order has been lifted. Residents within a one-mile radius advised to stay inside their homes as four semis involved in the crashes burn-- including one with hazardous material and another hauling fireworks.
