Are you proud to have hundreds of friends on Facebook? Well, don’t be, because who are you kidding, most of them aren’t really your friends. In fact, a new study finds that almost all of your Facebook friends are fake.

Researchers found that you can only count on about four of your friends. As for the rest, well, they really, honestly, don’t even care if anything bad happens to you.

So, don’t be tricked. Almost none of your Facebook “friends” are really friends at all. And some of them are probably rooting against you – just like you’re rooting against them.

The study found that the average Facebook user had about 150 friends, with about 14 actually expressing sympathy if anything went wrong. And users aren’t that surprised by that number, with most believing about 27% of their Facebook friends are actually genuine. According to the study, social media friends can be organized in different groups, with only about five being in the first and closest group, followed about 15 who are less close, 50 that are more detached, etc..

And believe it or not, those numbers similar to real life friendships, the only difference is that the big number on Facebook tricks people into thinking they have more friends.
