My Friend Nicole
I’d like to take a second to introduce you to my friend Nicole Kary. I met Nicole through a group that both Dave and I are pretty involved with called No More Sidelines.
Nicole has Cerebral Palsy or C.P. as more people refer to it as. Over the Thanksgiving holiday, she was in Florida at the Miss Teen USA Co-Ed Pageant where she won the award for the best personality. She speaks through a computer program as she has a hard time with most of her functions, but I can tell you…her personality would win any competition I was part of, it’s huge.
The real story here is this. Nicole was the only girl in the pageant that was in a wheel chair! All other contestants were able bodied young women, bright, talented and all deserving to be in the event. It takes a large amount of courage to get up on a stage anywhere and Nicole here could easily take the route of avoiding that kind of thing, but she chose to grab life by the shirt and say “I can do that”.
Her message is timeless, always try to remember what you can do instead of what you can’t. Who knows….maybe you could be in a beauty pageant too.
