Tragic news over the weekend as it was revealed that GRAMMY-winnerNatalie Cole died New Year's Eve. The legendary singer was at Cedar Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles and, according to her family, passed due to compilations from ongoing health issues. She was 65. 

The singer, who was the daughter of legendary crooner Nat King Cole, had previously been diagnosed with Hepatitis C and had even undergone a kidney transplant in 2009.

“Natalie fought a fierce, courageous battle, dying how she lived ... with dignity, strength and honor,” a statement from her son Robert Yancyand sisters Timolin and Casey Cole offered. “Our beloved Mother and sister will be greatly missed and remain UNFORGETTABLE in our hearts forever."

Natalie released her first album “Inseparable” in 1975 and won two GRAMMY awards, Best New Artist, and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for "This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)."

But she is probably best known for her 1991 album, "Unforgettable ... With Love," a tribute to her father, which included her voice cut with his for a duet on his classic “Unforgettable.” The album went on to sell 14-million copies and win six GRAMMYS, including Album of the Year, and Record and Song of the Year for the title track.

As news of Natalie's death hit the Twitter-verse, several stars took to social media with their reaction (check them out below), including Mariah Carey who posted a picture with Natalie and the caption, “Beyond devastated to hear about the passing of the beautiful and talented Natalie Cole.”

 

Aretha Franklin, who performed at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut on New Year's Day, paid tribute to Cole by performing “Inseparable,” telling the audience, “We will always remember this very classy and sophisticated lady.”
