Neil Young has had a busy week. Last night, he showed up on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" to duet with long time Young impersonator and host Jimmy Fallon.

Earlier, while launching his new Pono audio player, he dismissed the latest vinyl sales resurgence as a "fashion statement".

Jimmy Fallon has been known to do Neil Young style versions of current pop hits like "Whip My Hair", "Fancy" and the theme song to "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air".

So when the lights went down on announcer Steve Higgins' introduction, audience members were probably expecting another parody, only to find Fallon followed on stage by the real Neil Young in a serious take on the Young classic "Old Man".

Strangely, Fallon's "Neil Young" was toned down, but the duet had a sweet quality to it that has been become a trademark of his Tonight Show, which continues to dominate the late night world.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, Young admitted he's not impressed by the recent vinyl resurgence in sales. In fact, he told a radio show he think's it's "nothing but a fashion statement."

"A lot of people that buy vinyl today don’t realize that they’re listening to CD masters on vinyl and that’s because the record companies have figured out that people want vinyl," Young told KPCC's Frame Radio Show.  "And they're only making CD masters in digital, so all the new products that come out on vinyl are actually CDs on vinyl, which is really nothing but a fashion statement.

"For high-res music, Young offers his Pono player. "I'm saying that it’s a high-resolution digital player,” Young said. “It doesn’t create an analog sound; it creates the best digital sound. It’s capable of creating the best sounds that people can create in the digital realm in the recording studios."
