A new version of the holiday charity single “Do They Know It’s Christmas” is reportedly in the works, with proceeds this time going to Ebola research. Hollywood.com claims Bob Geldof and Midge Ure plan to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the single, with yet another recording of the track.

If it’s true, this will be the fourth incarnation of the song. The original, which was released in 1984 to raise funds to fight famine in Ethiopia, featured such superstars as U2, Duran Duran, Culture Club and George Michael. A new version with Cliff Richard, Kylie Minogue and Big Fun was recorded five years later, and then a 20th anniversary edition was made in 2004 featuring Paul McCartney and Coldplay’s Chris Martin.

So far no big names have been attached to the new project, although Geldof is said to be recruiting interested pop stars.

And the 20th Anniversary version...
