The Simpsons have been around for more than 20 years, making it the longest running animated sitcom of all time.

It's hard to remember a time when the yellow family was not on our television. During the '90s, though, The Simpsons was at the height of its popularity and everyone knew who the Fox show's characters were.

After two decades, though, is the show still as funny as it was years ago?

In my opinion, no.

I have a hard time watching my favorite family on TV today. I have a Hulu Plus account, and every time a new episode shows up, I usually pass it over for a few days. I proceed to watch it and rarely give a chuckle.

"The Simpsons" has turned from having an interesting moral at the end of each episode to making the entire show topical, just like another insanely popular animated show, Family Guy.

I'm not saying that the old ones weren't topical, but it seems like every episode today is. It was like the writers for "The Simpsons" went with what was popular and implemented it into their show.

While I don't this works extremely well for The Simpsons, I feel as though it was necessary. In order to keep ratings up (a.k.a. keeping your show on the air), you have to evolve with the times and it seems to be working for them.

However, it doesn't work for me as a longtime Simpsons fan.

The older episodes are insanely hilarious.

I recently liked a page on Facebook titledThe Simpsons' Best Moments.

Every day, this Facebook page posts an old clip from a Simpsons episode and those are extremely funny. I did notice though that all of all the clips that they post, none of them are newer ones. I actually sat at my desk and watched this clip over 9 times today.

Homer is still the same stupid oaf that he is, but he seemed a lot funnier back then. Maybe I got old?

If you are looking for the best Simpsons episodes, maybe invest getting the first 10 seasons on DVD. This is where the show was at it's peak and everyone was watching it.

Regardless of my opinions, the Simpsons is still grabbing ratings and still exists, and that makes me happy.

It will be a sad day when the Simpsons' legacy comes to a close.
