Oreo Jumps on the Pumpkin Spice Bandwagon
Thanks to the popularity of Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Lattes, pumpkin has been the “in” flavor for years. And the latest product to jump on the bandwagon is Oreo, which will introduce the limited edition Pumpkin Spice Oreo on September 24th for about six to eight weeks, depending on how long supplies last.
Of course, these don’t come with your standard chocolate cookie. These feature the golden vanilla cookie (the yellow one as I like to call it), with bright orange cream, that features a touch of cinnamon and nutmeg.
While some people are skeptical (myself included), early reviews seem to be positive, with staffers at the “Today Show" calling them “surprisingly tasty,” although one Daily News editor compared it to a scented Yankee candle.
This isn’t the first limited edition flavor to come from Oreo in recent years. In the past they’ve had mint, candy corn (which are SO awful as to sully the name "candy corn"), candy cane and cookies and cream which is basically just an Oreo within an Oreo, and sounds delicious.
Still some bring up a very good point, it appears the only pumpkin thing about the cookie is the color. Like the Starbucks latte, the prevailing taste in the new Oreo appears to be cinnamon, so why not just call it what it is. Now a cinnamon Oreo sounds like something worth going to the store for.
But leave it to the Canadians to finally ask the question I've been wondering for two years now: Have we reached PEAK Pumpkin Spice? The answer is clearly "Hell, no!" if this Pumpkin Spice condom almost was a thing.
