National Record Store Day is Saturday April 16, remembering those days when you would hang out at your local record store, talk music, listen to new music and get into arguments over who was better, The Who or Zeppelin.

Locally, Vertigo, Dodd's and the Corner Record Store have live music lined up. Check out the schedule inside.

Each year on the third Saturday of April, fans and artists all over the world come together to support independent record stores on Record Store Day. Chris Brown, an employee at a local record store, came up with the idea in 2007. In April of 2008, Metallica kicked off the first Record Store Day with a performance at Rasputin Music in San Francisco, California.

Locally, Vertigo Music and Dodd's Record Store, both in Grand Rapids, and the Corner Record Store in Grandville have live music events planned.

At Vertigo, 129 S. Division, themusic will kick off with Brendan Sykes at noon, followed by the Zen Star Beat Cult at 1pm, Jesse Ray & The Carolina Catfish at 2, Vox Vidorra at 3,  Forever Grey, the Lost System and The Bootstrap Boys will also perform.

Dodd's, 808 Bridge St. NW has a couple of parties planned. Channing and Quinn will kick off the festivities at the store starting at noon, with live music slated until 8pm. Local bands Emma and Sam, The Bullets and The Legal Immigrants are among the performers. The downtown store will also host the annual Record Store Day Parade at 3pm.

Then, the show shifts down the street to the Flamingo Lounge, 930 Bridge Street NW with music from 8 until the early morning hours with The Bitters and Otis Blueswell Jr. among the featured acts.

Out in Grandville, the Corner, 3562 Chicago Drive, has live music lined up starting at noon with Brief Candles, Overly Polite Tornadoes, Great Black Night, and Vida Eterna on the bill.

To support the cause, many artists release exclusive vinyls, CDs, and promotional materials on Record Store Day. There are also a variety of special events, contests, and high profile appearances that take place during the day.
