The more things change in Detroit the more they stay the same. That’s because just one day after the Detroit Pistons beat the Wizards 112-99 to make it to the NBA post season for the first time since 2009—their neighbors the Detroit Red Wings made the post season for an NHL record the 25th straight time.

Of course, both teams took it down to the wire as the Red Wings made it into the playoffs despite losing their second straight game Saturday night. Still, they got a gift from the Senators, who beat the Bruins. But it's HOW you got to the dance, it's that you have a ticket, AM I RIGHT!?

The Red Wings’ 25-season playoff streak is far and away the longest in the NHL with the next closest team being the Penguins who will enter playoffs for the ninth straight year this month.

The record for the most consecutive NHL post season appearances belongs to the Boston Bruins, who put together a run of 29 straight playoff years from 1968 through 1996.

It’s impressive to note that the last time the Red Wings missed the playoffs was way back in the spring of 1990 and in the past quarter of a decade have won Lord Stanley’s Cup four times.

It's been so long since the Wings have missed the playoffs, that the last time they weren't in, the internet wasn't even a thing, the Berlin Wall was still up and the youngest player on the team, Dylan Larkin, was still five years from being born.

And THIS was the number one song.

I'm not even sure if she's still alive, let alone recording music.

By the way, the Wings will face the Tampa Bay Lightning in the opening round of the NHL Playoffs later this week.

The Pistons are surely just hoping they can catch lightning in a bottle as the will most likely be facing the Toronto Raptors and if not them then, the Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James.

In either case, Detroit—you rock as a sports city.
