Restaurant Week – One Trick Pony With Dave Kaechele
The return of Restaurant Week in Grand Rapids has taught me a couple of things. First, there really is something for everyone’s taste buds. And second, if you are thinking about taking a three-year old and believe he can sit quietly through a 45-minute meal at a nice eatery, you might want to think again.
This is my son, Max enjoying his dinner before wiping it on my forearm.
One Trick Pony on Fulton Street makes for a very satisfying Restaurant Week experience. Whether on a date, with a group of friends, or just attempting to thank your mother for giving you birth, interest-free loans, and child care, OTP delivers good service and tasty eats.
Our server, Jennifer was top-notch. It was service with a smile and infinite patience while dealing with Max. In fact, if she can hold out another 27 years, she’d make a great daughter-in-law.
The food was splendid. My mom got a little adventurous, going with the spicy jerk chicken pasta, a selection so good, it belongs on a static sticker.
Max and I probably could have ordered off the same menu. I got to color the pony.
I built my own pizza and it was fantastic in its simplicity. Max went with the mac & cheese and liked it enough to stay seated and stop trying to blow out candles on other customers’ tables for five minutes. The meal was topped off with a delicious dessert. My mother and Max split a strawberry shortcake, while I devoured a hot fudge brownie sundae inside of two minutes. This is one of the great things about Restaurant Week; Whether you’re three or 73, or just a 40-something with the palate of a teenager, you will find a delicacy to your liking. I highly recommend One Trick Pony.
