We first heard about Jeffery Augustine Songco the first weekend of ArtPrize when a good portion of the 2700 pounds of plastic Mardi Gras beads he hung on a fence as part of an art installation in Calder Plaza were taken by ArtPrize spectators.

He talked with Jojo recently about the incident and the conversation he wanted to tinspire with his art.

Songco, who was here for the first weekend of ArtPrize, but has since returned to California, said he intended his piece to be a 'conversation' and to that end he accomplished his goal. (Songco was first profiled by Matt Milhouse in an earlier interview about 'Revelry')

And while he admitted disappointment over the swiping of the beads, he says he leaves Grand Rapids and ArtPrize with great memories.
