The Detroit Tigers have been struggling, having lost seven of their last nine games. And it sure doesn't help when their opponents are able to fuel their superstition by finding a new 'rally mantis' in their dugout in Comerica Park.

What is a rally mantis? Well, I'm glad you asked.

The Kansas City Royals are the defending World Champions in baseball, but this season they've been struggling, until they found a preying mantis in their dugout and immediately won five out of six games.

They tried to take the insect on the road with them, but it suffered a cruel fate, and died in Minneapolis. But when a new mantis popped up on the edge of their dugout in Detroit, they decided they needed to corral it so it could be their new 'rally mantic.

Here's an interesting idea -- maybe the Tigers could release a female mantis into the Royals dugout, they would have a quick fling, and she would eat him, as mantises are want to do.
