How do you think it worked out between Lloyd Dobler and Diane Court in "Say Anything?"

NBC has ordered a sitcom based on the 1989 classic, which reunites the two lovers after a painful break up.

However, there's a catch.

The show will pick up 10 years after the movie left off, but things haven't gone quite the way Lloyd wanted. He and Diane split up, and his life is going about how her father thought it would. But then she arrives back in town and inspires him to turn things around.

According to Deadline.com, the movie's creator, Cameron Crowe, is said to be upset about the new series. He immediately took to Twitter to disclaim any connection between himself and the new series, and included John Cusack and Ione Skye, who played the orignal Lloyd and Diane.

He apparently didn't know it was in the works until the story broke overnight, and he's going to try to stop it from going forward. NBC is legally within its rights to advance the plotline, but studios traditionally get filmmakers' blessings. Deadline says a miscommunication is to blame.

Cusack, for his part, resounded Crowe's words on his own Twitter feed with an emphatic "Hell no!"

NBC would be totally within their rights to move on with the idea. However, with such an instant online backlash, I'm not sure that would be the best idea.

The film is best known for the iconic scene in which Lloyd stands outside Diane's house, holding a boom box over his head, blaring Peter Gabriel's '80s anthem "In Your Eyes".
