The Thrillist.com took a few liberties recently when they declared Faygo to be 'The Most Iconic Soft Drink' of Michigan. That's all well and good, but did they bother to ask anyone here in The Great Lake State what they thought?

I did.

The pop scene in Michigan was healthy when I was growing up. It seemed every city had its own pop, from National in Saginaw to Towne Club in Grand Rapids. When you travel this fair land, Michigan ex-pats will always long for one of two Michigan made pops, Faygo (with its many flavors) and the unique mouth tingling sensation that is Vernor's Ginger Ale (aged in oak barrels!!).

In naming Faygo the state's 'Most Iconic Soft Drink', Thrillist made reference to it's pop culture standing:

Faygo is perhaps best known nationally for being appropriated by Insane Clown Posse, but this refreshing Michigan soda's wildly popular in its home state for its multitude of flavors and relatively low cost. This could've gone to Vernor's as well, but Faygo is more ubiquitous throughout the state and is still made in Detroit, so it comes out on top.

So what say you? Faygo or Vernor's

We on The Jojo Show took the mission seriously and conducted a totally scientific (we took the first seven callers) survey and the results were overwhelming. WFGR listeners preferred Vernor's to the multi-flavored Faygo. Many cited being comforted by Mom with a bottle of Vernor's when they were sick.

FYI -- The red bearded gnome on the bottle of Vernors is named Woody. In case anyone asks.

The ball is on your court, Thrillist.
