Distracting the clerk for even 5 seconds is enough time.

Miami Beach, Fla. -- Watch as three men distract the store clerk and place card (reader) skimmer on ATM Point-of-Sale Machine.

These guys are pros, that was scary fast. No telling how many numbers they gathered either.

The following day, the gas station’s morning clerk called the cops after the skimmer became loose on the keypad.

Maybe 12 hours of card info stolen? I guess the upside is with their fancy security system that tells you all of the information of each person that goes through the line, they can alert each and every person to contact their appropriate banking institution to tell them to cancel their card.

It wasn't that long ago we got a notice from GRPD to be vigilant against ATM skimming in town. That got me to wondering how do criminals do it. How can they install a skimmer without anybody noticing. Well the above video shows how easy and quick it is.

Being a victim of credit card theft recently, I've been extra vigilant when approaching atms. Pulling on the cash machines to see if there's any extra bits installed. Looks like I need to start doing that at registers too now.

I already feel a bit cuckoo pulling on the ATM when I'm by myself. Now, the cashiers will have a front row seat and silently judge me.

I can't wait for all of the stores to use the 'chip insert' thing to stop this kind of theft. Maybe I should only shop at stores that make use of the chip insert, or maybe just make like 1986 and start writing checks everywhere I go. Or, start using cash.

Bleh.
