Tragedy strikes a family northeast of Holland where three members were found dead on Sunday.

According to WOOD TV, the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office said a 51-year-old man, a 42-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were found dead due to a shooting Sunday night.

Sheriff Mark Bennett would not immediately classify the shooting as a murder suicide but did say the shooter appeared to be one of the dead.

Someone from inside the home, located on Westland Court off Riley Street, west of US-31 in Holland Township, had called 911 to report the shooting around 5 p.m. Three other family members were in the house at the time of the shooting managed to escape.

A SWAT team was sent to secure the area. A neighbor Dan Lokers said, "This is something I've never witnessed or even seen, so many police officers in one spot and they just kept coming faster every time. Then I saw the SWAT team and I went, 'Something is really wrong.'"

Officers worked on getting the shooter to leave the house for hours with no luck. Officers then entered the home and discovered three dead bodies with gunshot wounds.

Investigators say the motive for the shooting is still unknown and was an isolated domestic incident.

An area resident was surprised by what had happened stating that the family in question had lived in the neighborhood peacefully for more than 20 years.
