Six Grand Rapids Area football teams remained alive as the tournament heads to the semi-final stage this weekend.

Grand Rapids once again is well represented in the State High School Football Playoffs, sending six teams to the semi-finals, with the winners advancing to the State Championships Thanksgiving weekend at Ford Field in Detroit.

NorthPointe Christian was involved in arguably the most exciting game of the weekend, holding off Constantine 35-34 at Comstock Park's field. The Mustangs defense thwarted a two point conversion attempt by Constantine in overtime to advance to their second consecutive semi-final.

The Mustangs will play Clinton at noon Saturday for a chance to play for the Division 6 title. That game will be played at Battle Creek Harper Creek High School's field.

In Division 2, Lowell advanced to the semis with a surprisingly easy 36-7 take down of perennial power Muskegon. The Red Arrows will play Walled Lake Western on the Alma College field Saturday at 1:00pm.

East Grand Rapids advanced in Division 3, throttling Mount Pleasant, 35-0, on their home field Saturday. The Pioneers will play Detroit Catholic League power Orchard Lake St. Mary at Howell High School Saturday at 1:00pm. Orchard Lake is the defending state champion in Division 3.

In Division 4, two area teams will lock horns when Forest Hills Eastern takes on Zeeland West in Division 4. The game will be played Saturday at 1:00pm at East Kentwood High School's field. Eastern advanced with a 34-7 whipping of Remus Chippewa Hills, while Zeeland West struggled to edge Unity Christian 28-21, after thrashing them 52-6 earlier this year.

West has won two titles previously in 2011 and 2013 (the latter in Division 3), while this is Eastern's first trip to the semis.

In Division 5, West Catholic is on track for its third straight state title after edging Menominee on the road last Saturday, 24-14. The Falcons will take on Lansing Catholic on Greenville's field Saturday at 1:00pm. Those two teams played for the state title last year, with West Catholic winning a thriller 24-20.
