As we told you before, former Journey frontman Steve Perry made a second surprise guest appearance with Eels over the weekend – but don’t get too excited, he's telling “Classic Rock” magazine that performances are just for fun.

And he's reiterated that there's no chance of a reunion with Neal Schon and co – despite current frontman Arnel Pineda saying he'd be welcome to reclaim his "righteous place."

"People have been putting two and two together,” says Perry. “But this wasn't about a reunion with Journey. “There is no reunion. I was just having fun."

Perry goes on to say that the surprise was half the joy. "In a world where it's hard to keep a secret,” he mused. “It felt so much fun to walk out there to an unsuspecting crowd." Eels frontman E (real name Mark Oliver Everett), had introduced Perry at both performances by explaining he'd walked away from Journey because "it didn't feel right." "I couldn't have put it better,” said Perry. “That's exactly what happened. It had run its course.”

The former Journey frontman joined The Eels for another show over the weekend, this time sitting in for a few songs at their concert in Washington, D.C.  At Saturday's concert, Perry stepped up to sing an Eels song and a cover of Sam Cooke's "Only Sixteen" along with the Journey hits "Open Arms" and "Loving Touchin Squeezin."

After that concert, The Eels' Mark Everett told "Billboard" he hoped Steve would play more shows with the group, but was "just glad it happened" once.  Everett added that he'd never "press Steve" to sit in with The Eels again, explaining that in their relationship "Steve does what Steve does." Clearly, Perry enjoyed himself - and for the record...anyone who snarked about Perry's rusty pipes the first time out had zero to complain about with this latest rendition. Good for Steve!
