West Michigan has fared well in this year's state football playoffs, with five teams still in the running to win their respective Division titles.

But the early blast of lake effect snow has played havoc with the schedule, and two teams have been told their games have been moved to sites away from the massive snowfall.

Zeeland West's huge Division 3 semi-final showdown with perennial power Muskegon has been moved to Greenville High School's field after Rockford administrators told officials they could not get their field ready in time. The game will still kickoff Saturday at 1:00pm.

Greenville athletic director Brian Zadnowski told MLive this week that preparations were all ready under way to prepare his field, “We are also hosting the eight-man state championships on Friday night, so we have been getting the field ready for that. This is what we did last year. We hosted the eight-man on Friday and I believe a Division 6 semifinal on Saturday.”

Greenville has been on the edge of the lake effect snow line, with a majority of the snow ending about eight miles west of town.

Zeeland West, the defending Division 3 state champion, is 12-0, while Muskegon enters the game 11-1.

Yesterday, South Christian High was informed their Division 4 semi-final against Edwardsburg has been moved to the Jackson High School field. The game time for the Sailors has also been pushed back to from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. That's because Jackson already has a semi-final game scheduled for their site. That game, a Division 7 match up between Detroit Loyola and Pewamo-Westphalia has been moved up to 11:00am.

Local teams have been scrambling to find places to practice in the harsh weather. East Kentwood, a Division 1 team has been working out at the Elite Baseball Complex on Clyde Park. Coach Tony Kimbrough told MLive this week, "Practice is just practice. We practiced indoors last week, and we had one of our better performances. The focus seems to be a little better indoors because we are in close proximity of each other, and they seem to tune in a little bit more.”

North Pointe Christian, meanwhile has had three days off of school this week as the Mustangs prepare to play Monroe St. Mary's in Division 6. The team has been practicing indoors at Woodland Sports Center.
