I stumbled a bit last week when Grand Valley failed to hold off a very good Ashland team on the road. Still, my record did improve to 38-5 for the season.

Let's see how we do this week...

Rutgers (3-5) at Michigan (6-2) 3:30pm Staurday, Michigan Stadium, Ann Arbor -- This is the last easy game before they hit a brutal end of season stretch, with difficult road games at Indiana and Penn State and, of course, the annual battle with the Buckeyes. Let's hope the old defense from thos eearly season shut outs shows up. Michigan 27, Rutgers 7

7 Michigan State (8-0) at Nebraska (3-6), 7:00pm Saturday, Memorial Stadium, Lincoln, Nebraska -- Many feel a wounded Cornhusker might mean danger for the Spartans, but this Nebraska team just isn't very good. Unless Sparty implodes (which under D'Antonio they haven't against an unranked opponent), this should be a win, albeit tougher than expected. MSU 23, Nebraska 14

Ball State (3-6) at Western Michigan (5-3), 7:30pm Thursday, Waldo Stadium, Kalamazoo -- Western was handed a huge gift this week when Northern Illinois dropped Toldeo from the Ranks of the undefeated. Now the Broncos control their own destiny -- win out and they are the MAC West champions. Ball State offers little resistence this week. WMU 44, BSU 20

Toledo (8-1) at Central Michigan (5-4), 8:00pm Tuesday, November 10, Kelly Shorts Stadium, Mt. Pleasant -- Quite simply put, it's do or die for the Chippewas. Win, and they're still in contention for the MAC West title. Lose, and they wind up in some weird bowl game in a foreign country. Toledo lost a tough one at home to NIU Tuesday, can they recover or will they fold? Toledo 20, CMU 16

Grand Valley (7-2) at Tiffin (5-4), 1:30pm Saturday, Frost Kelnow Stadium, Tiffin, OH -- Like Central, GVSU can't afford another road loss if it wants to keep its Division II playoff hopes alive. Here's hoping the Lakers rise to the occasion. GVSU 33, Tiffin 27

Ferris State (8-0) at Northern Michigan (5-4), 1:00pm Saturday, Superior Dome, Marquette -- With their playoff berth all but clinched, it's just a matter of the Bulldogs fine tuning things for the post-season. Northern is 4-1 at the cozy confines of the Yooper Dome, and came within inches of upsetting Ashland their two weeks ago. Bulldogs beware. Ferris 37, NMU 28
